Wherefrom:
The idea of the stool first “arrived” close to the submission date.
It was maybe obvious to explore the possibilities of the lockable stool-concept, but it was hard work to give it a new simple and strong shape.
The first inspiration came from the shape of an egg. A natural and strong shape.
But the need for a seat, lead to the final apple-shape.
How:
The material is wood. The starting point for “Walk the Plank” is a plank,
with the dimensions; 3” x 10” x 120”. This plank is cut into smaller identical pieces which are steam bended. The pieces are then moulded into the final
“piece of cake”-shape and with great precision glued together. The wood turner
then fabricate the final shape and give it a soap-treatment.
Why:
The design and construction of the stool is the result of an on-going exploration
of the possibilities in wood. In this case, exploring how to give a known shape a new
function. The exiting part is to challenge your own and the producers skills.
So in this project the motive has been the play with the possibilities hidden in a
piece of wood.
